Joy, an acerbic woman, receives a heart transplant that saves her life but leaves her emotionally conflicted. Instead of embracing her new lease on life, she spirals into doubt, questioning whether she truly deserves this second chance. At a friend’s urging, Joy decides to track down the family of Jack, the young man whose heart now beats within her, seeking closure and understanding. Meanwhile, Jack’s parents, Alice and Hank, along with their daughter Sammy, are grappling with the profound loss of their son. The encounter between Joy and Jack’s family becomes a tempestuous and emotional meeting, blending tears, laughter, and moments of unexpected insight.
